Crackelet Mermelada – Chilean Onion and Red Pepper Jam
Crackelet Mermelada is Costa's savory jam, sold under its Crackelet cracker brand in a 110 g pouch. Two flavors: Onion, the mermelada de cebolla, and Red Pepper, the mermelada de pimentón.
Both are sweet the way a jam is sweet, with the savory depth of the cooked vegetable behind it, and both carry soft pieces through them rather than a smooth puree. The label puts the vegetable at 35% of the Onion and 40% of the Red Pepper, counting the diced pieces and the pulp together.
The pouch makes its own suggestion: spread it on a Crackelet cracker with a little cream cheese. It works just as well over a wheel of cheese, on a sandwich, a burger or roast meat. The label calls it ideal para compartir, ideal for sharing.
Why You'll Love It
- Costa's savory jam from Chile
- Onion or Red Pepper, both with real pieces
- Single 3.88 oz (110 g) pouch, about seven tablespoons
- Sweet and savory, not a smooth spread
- Made for cheese boards and crackers
It is named for Crackelet, the square Costa cracker it was made to go on. Galletas Soda works just as well, and for the sweet side of the shelf there is Watt's Mermelada.
